Ante- A small portion of a bet contributed by each player to seed the pot at the beginning of a poker hand.
Bounty - A cash prize rewarded for eliminating players from a tournament. Depending on the tournament, a player might be rewarded for eliminating either a specific player or any player. The reward is in cash prize, and not in tournament currency.
Bad beat - In online poker games or live, a bad beat is a subjective term for a hand in which a player with what appear to be strong cards nevertheless loses. It most often occurs where one player bets the clearly stronger hand and their opponent makes a poor call that eventually "sucks out" and wins. In short, - When a poker hand is beaten by a lucky draw.
Battle of the Blinds- When everyone folds to the players who have forced bets. When action folds around to the SB (Small Blind) and BB (Big Blind).
Cowboys- The pair of kings, most commonly used when a player in Texas Hold'em poker has pocket kings. A very strong hand.
Dog- The person with the lowest chance of winning a hand, "when he called my all-in and showed a higher set, I was a 43-1 dog to win; only the remaining five could help me".
Dry/ side pot- A side pot with no money created when a player goes all in and is called by more than one opponent, but not raised.
Flush Draw - When a player has four cards in his hand of the same suit and is hoping to draw a fifth to make a flush.
Gutshot- To draw to and/or hit an inside straight.
Limp - To just call the big blind instead of raising it is known as a limp. "There were three limpers to me on the button, and I decided to raise with my pair of jacks."
Muck- The discarded cards into which players may throw their folded hands, and into which the dealer may place burned cards. It may also refer to the action of throwing a hand into the muck.
Pocket pair - When you have a pair in the hole in hold'em.
Shove - Yet another way of saying all-in.
Straddle- When someone posts a big blind plus a rise in the first position after the BB.
Nut Flush- As far as 'nut' means the best possible hand, 'nut flush is the best flush available within each hand.
Value bet- A bet made by a player who wants it to be called.
