Bad Beat: In online poker games or live, a bad beat is a subjective poker term for a hand in which a player with what appear to be strong cards nevertheless loses. Battle of the Blinds: When everyone folds to the players who have forced bets. When action folds around to the SB (Small Blind) and BB (Big Blind). This happens when the Small Blind decides to call and action is between the blinds only.

Dry/ Side pot: A side pot with no money created when a player goes all in and is called by more than one opponent, but not raised.

Flush Draw: When a player has four cards in his hand of the same suit and is hoping to draw a fifth to make a flush.

Gutshot: A popular poker term that implies drawing to and/or hitting an inside straight.

Limp: a common poker term, meaning to just call the big blind instead of raising. “There were three limpers to me on the button, and I decided to raise them with my pair of jacks.”

Muck:  The discarded cards into which players may throw their folded hands, and into which the dealer may place burned cards. It may also refer to the action of throwing a hand into the poker muck.

Pocket pair: Another common poker term used in Hold’em poker when you have a pair as hole cards.

Shove: Yet another way of saying all-in.

Straddle: When someone posts a big blind plus a rise in the first position after the BB.

Nut Flush:  As far as ‘nut’ means the best possible poker hand, ‘nut flush is the best flush available within each hand.

Value bet: A bet made by a player who wants it to be called.
